Northern Morocco’s Tourism Boom: Coastal Cities Unveil Upgraded Beaches and Cultural Experiences for Summer 2025

As every year, national vacationers flock to Northern Morocco to enjoy their holidays. The region is mobilizing to offer them quality tourist services.
Northern Morocco remains a preferred destination for thousands of Moroccans in the summer. At the beginning of the summer season, cities like Tangier, Tetouan, M’diq or Chefchaouen are stormed by vacationers. The Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima has planned an ambitious program to offer Moroccan visitors the optimal conditions to spend dream vacations in the seaside resorts. "For the 2025 summer season, our region has bet on quality and accessible tourism, with a better structured tourism offer, adapted to the expectations of Moroccan visitors, and strengthened infrastructure," says Rkia Alaoui, president of the CRT.
The region is mobilizing to offer comfort and security to national vacationers. "We are very proud of the dynamic that has been set in motion, which reflects a collective effort, involving public authorities, professionals and local stakeholders," rejoices Alaoui, who develops: "We have redeveloped the beaches with the installation of free parasols, modern showers, and reinforced first aid posts." The president of the CRT adds that "these improvements are accompanied by a vast cleanliness campaign and strict supervision of summer activities to ensure a clean and pleasant environment for everyone."
In Tetouan and M’diq, "new cultural circuits are enriching the offer, in parallel with the creation of modern seaside infrastructures and innovative attractions to meet growing demand," while in Chefchaouen, the enhancement of heritage remains a priority, she details. And she continues: "We have intensified cleaning campaigns, improved the urban environment, particularly in the iconic alleys, and strengthened support for local accommodations so that the authentic charm of the city is preserved, while improving the comfort of visitors."
This year, the summer season started earlier, "as early as the first days of June," where "the first vacationers flocked in large numbers, which is unusual, as tourist activity generally intensifies in July," explains Alaoui, stressing that "this anticipation has resulted in very high hotel occupancy rates in Tangier, Tetouan or in the Tamuda Bay, mainly driven by a loyal and enthusiastic national clientele." Tourism professionals hope for an average occupancy rate of 70 to 75% throughout the season.
Also, the regional tourism offer has been enriched and diversified. "New hotel structures, ranging from mid-range to luxury, have emerged, offering a wide range of experiences adapted to all types of visitors," says the president of the CRT, who argues that "today, national tourists are particularly seduced by modernized beaches, a variety of activities and a family and friendly atmosphere." Similarly, "the opening of new direct lines to our region significantly reduces the cost of access, which improves its competitiveness," she adds.
For this summer, the region has planned "a series of artistic events, street performances, interactive workshops and outdoor activities, particularly in the medinas," Alaoui informs. "We want to offer visitors an authentic immersion in the local cultural richness, by creating playful and participatory experiences, open to all," says the official before concluding: "Our objective is to strengthen local attractiveness, while promoting inclusive and balanced tourism. We want to attract a diverse clientele and better distribute the flows, for a harmonious and sustainable development of the territory."
