Designed in Rabat, tested in the south: a new military drone takes shape in Morocco

The project appears in a recruitment advertisement published by Harmattan AI for its new Moroccan division. The company is seeking an engineer in Rabat to define and conduct validation campaigns for its systems.

The engineer’s main task will concern a “new fixed-wing drone developed locally.” The program is still sufficiently far from completion for the engineer hired to take part from the design phase and establish the procedures, tools and methods that will be used to test the aircraft.

This clarification goes beyond the agreement concluded in June between Harmattan AI and the Royal Armed Forces. That agreement already provided for the production of autonomous systems in Morocco, as well as the creation of a research and development center dedicated to military artificial intelligence.

Drone trials all the way to southern Morocco

Harmattan AI is also preparing all the infrastructure necessary for flight testing. The engineer will have to conduct campaigns at a test site located near the Rabat team. When the flights require more airspace, the company plans to use large test areas “farther south.”

Another advertisement intended for a pilot-technician confirms the arrangement. Harmattan is seeking a specialist capable of piloting this new fixed-wing drone in direct view and in FPV, while also deploying the aircraft, antennas, radios and ground equipment in the field. Some campaigns may last several days in the south of the Kingdom.

Morocco would not serve solely for Moroccan programs, either. Harmattan states that its Rabat teams may occasionally participate in testing projects developed in France and Switzerland when those projects also require large flight areas.

This presence thus gives a new dimension to the partnership announced in June. Harmattan AI no longer plans merely to manufacture autonomous military systems in Morocco: part of their design, validation and flight testing will be carried out directly in the Kingdom.

The company, co-founded by Moroccan national Mouad M’Ghari, notably develops intelligence and strike drones, as well as autonomous air-defense systems. After raising 200 million dollars in early 2026, it is valued at 1.4 billion dollars and is now significantly accelerating its presence in Morocco.
