Delivery Driver Assaulted in Trappes: Attacker Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

The Versailles Criminal Court sentenced Ali, a 23-year-old from Trappes, to two years in prison for his involvement in the beating of a delivery man.
The events took place on March 9 in Trappes. "It’s around 7:30 pm that evening when a delivery van hits a parked Citroën C3 with three young people inside," reports Le Parisien. The 31-year-old delivery man offers the Citroën driver an amicable report, which he declines, telling the delivery man that he has neither a license nor insurance.
What follows? The three young people hit him about ten times on the head. He flees running and takes refuge in the car of a terrified motorist. As if that were not enough, they dragged him out by force and threatened him. Meanwhile, the motorist had alerted the police. By the time the police arrived, the attackers had already fled. Later, the police found two young people matching the victim’s descriptions, near the damaged C3. One of the young people fled when he saw the police. The other surrendered.
In court, Ali did not admit the facts. "I had just played a football match between neighborhood teams... When I saw the police, I went straight to them. If I had something to reproach myself for, I would have fled," explains this 23-year-old man, already convicted fifteen times. He said he had a C3, but stressed that it was different from the one found.
Although Dutheil de la Rochère, Ali’s lawyer, mentioned the shortcomings of the investigation in this case, the court sentenced him to two years in prison. The judge felt that the evidence gathered was sufficient to convict the defendant.
