COVID-19 Surge May Force Postponement of African Champions League Final in Morocco

In barely veiled terms, the National Steering Committee, responsible for monitoring the Coronavirus, has expressed its concern about the speed of the virus’ spread. Measures could be taken, as is the case for the postponement of certain sporting events, and the organization or not, of continental finals.
Set up since the declaration of cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome due to COVID-19, the National Steering Committee stated that it is closely monitoring the epidemiological situation internationally. According to them, epidemiological measures could be taken. These include, among other things, the postponement of sporting events; which could suggest that Morocco could withdraw its candidacy to host the final of the African Champions League, reports the newspaper Al Massae.
According to the Steering Committee, responsible for monitoring the progress of the coronavirus, the measures in question could concern, in particular, "the postponement of scheduled sporting and cultural events in the kingdom, the cancellation of mass gatherings and the management of travel to and from countries experiencing community spread."
At the moment, concerns are being raised about one of the major events that the kingdom is preparing to host. This is the final of the Mohammed VI Cup of Arab Clubs, scheduled at the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat on April 18. Morocco could well play, or even win this final, if Raja Casablanca were to dispose of the Egyptian club of Al Ismaïly. However, a big question remains on everyone’s lips: will Morocco maintain this final if, in the meantime, the coronavirus epidemic takes on worrying proportions?
