Citroën’s Formul’Ami: Racing-Inspired Electric Microcar Set to Electrify City Streets

On October 20, 2025, Citroën organized a major Parisian event to present its first electric single-seater entered in Formula E for the 2025-2026 season. Alongside the brand’s sporting legends such as the ZX Rallye Raid or the C4 WRC, an Ami stole the show: the "Formul’Ami" dressed in the blue, white, and red colors of the GEN3 Evo single-seater. This unique model proudly displayed the French and New Zealand flags of the driver duo Jean-Eric Vergne and Nick Cassidy on its doors. The enthusiasm of the dealers present convinced Xavier Chardon to seriously study the possibility of commercializing a special series of the quadricycle, reports L’argus.

Since its launch in 2020, the small electric Ami has been a hit, particularly with young drivers. With 77,000 units assembled in Kénitra, Morocco, the non-license quadricycle has been a real success. The 1,000 units of the limited "Ami Buggy" series, launched in 2023, sold out in just a few hours. Buoyed by this success, Citroën has permanently integrated this version into its range during the 2025 facelift. While the customer base remains predominantly male, young women are more inclined towards its Italian cousin, the Fiat Topolino.

The Formul’Ami takes up the technical characteristics of the existing models: an 8.2 horsepower electric motor, a 5.4 kWh battery offering 75 kilometers of range, and a top speed limited to 45 km/h. In terms of price, it could be sold for less than 10,000 euros, knowing that the standard Ami costs 8,190 euros (or 62 euros per month after a down payment) and the Ami Buggy 9,590 euros (74.10 euros per month). The difference would be in the style (tricolor livery, motorsport-inspired stickers, and a small Citroën-stamped spoiler). The launch date of this sporty version is not yet known.
