Child Dies After Botched Circumcision by Local Official in Rural Morocco

An authority agent, in the outskirts of Zagora, caused the death of a child, following a failed circumcision operation. Taken to the hospital, the victim succumbed to severe hemorrhage.
On Tuesday, August 20, 2019, in the commune of Ternata under the province of Zagora, a child was the victim of a botched circumcision by the Sheikh of the douar. The deep bleeding that followed could not be stopped, causing his immediate death.
According to Agadir24, citing local sources, the authority agent is directly responsible for the child’s death, due to his ignorance of the basic medical rules to be observed during the circumcision operation.
The doctors at the Ouarzazate hospital failed to stop the hemorrhage, despite their efforts. An investigation has been opened by the city authorities to determine the circumstances of the death.
