Casablanca Revitalizes Public Spaces with Multimillion-Dirham Park Renovations

Unrecognizable, until recently, the Arab League, Place Mohammed V and Rachidi, the promenade of the Hassan II Mosque, the corniche have recently regained their prestige as spaces of beauty and life. With millions of dirhams, the urban commune of Casablanca is bringing its public squares up to date. The time of wild spaces in the middle of the city is over.

The specifications of the successful bidders include the renovation and necessary replacement of degraded or dead plants, restoration of lawns..., the evacuation and cleaning of waste deposited or scattered outside the planted areas. An ambition that calls for substantial resources. The cost of maintaining the Arab League park is around 5 million DH. Here, companies and Casablancans are putting their hands in their pockets: a monthly contribution of 500 DH for companies and 360 DH for management advisers and 35 DH per apartment for residents.

The ongoing experience is likely to encourage its generalization; many public gardens managed by the private sector can be cited as examples: Anfa-Park on the outskirts of Casa Finance City in Casa-Anfa; the 18-hectare park (50 hectares after extension) opened to the public last March.
