Casablanca Launches $18 Million Wastewater Recycling Program for Urban Green Spaces

The city of Casablanca has equipped itself with several wastewater treatment and recycling projects for the irrigation of green spaces.
These are precisely six projects designed for "wastewater treatment, storage and distribution of treated water", reports l’Économiste, according to which the calls for tenders have already been launched by the Local Development Company (SDL) "Casa Baïa".
With a total cost of 189 million dirhams, which will be subsidized by more than 50% (100 million dirhams) by the State, the program will be financed by the various partners, namely the Casablanca-Settat regional council, the urban municipality of Casablanca, the Bouregreg-Chaouia watershed agency.
Ultimately, the infrastructure will allow the irrigation of the green spaces of the Metropolis and the golf courses in Casablanca and Mohammedia, the newspaper points out, specifying that they aim to ensure water security in the Casablanca-Settat region, to fight against the effects of climate change and to reduce the price of water dedicated to watering.
Scheduled for 2024, the infrastructure will serve the Anfa golf course, the promenade of the Hassan II Mosque, the Arab League Park, the green spaces along the highway and in the prefecture of the Ben M’sik districts, the Alesco Garden, the Mohammedia golf courses, the Moulay Hassan Garden, the Mohammedia provincial garden, the Anfa Gardens, the Ermitage Park and the Murdoch Garden, details the same source.
