Rabat Invests 660 Million DH in Sustainable Water Solution for Expanding Green Spaces

With its ever-expanding green spaces, gardens and parks, Rabat City of Light is in growing need of water. Nearly 660 million DH have been planned as part of this program supervised by the company Rabat Region Development.
Due to its high cost, Rabat can no longer continue to use drinking water for the watering of its green and leisure spaces. The bill has more than doubled between 2015 (12 million DH) and 2020, said L’Economiste, citing one of its elected officials.
The cost of the first phase of this project amounts to 140 million DH, of which 50 million DH to be mobilized by the region, reports the same source, adding that the wastewater will be treated at the ONEE station in the commune of Ain Aouda, with the possibility of resorting to a second one located in Tamesna and then drained through a 70 km long distribution network.
In this same perspective, tourist/hotel facilities must include the treatment and reuse of wastewater in their project costs. Just as the agricultural sector must modernize irrigation methods and move away from so-called "water-consuming" plants.
But the most important factor is the change in behavior that calls for structured and sustainable involvement, from the education system at all levels, because water is life.
In short, Morocco must stop living according to the culture and logic of water abundance. Its waste must be punished by law. It is a product and a subject to be included in the programs of political parties, during election campaigns.
