Casablanca Raises Taxes and Transport Fares to Fund Major Sports Events

The city of Casablanca is preparing to see its taxes and the price of transportation increase. These measures, announced by Mayor Nabila Rmili, aim to replenish the city’s coffers and finance the major projects launched in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.
The city’s annual budget is expected to reach 5.65 billion DH. To achieve this goal, the city hall plans to increase tax revenues by 10% per year. This will result in an increase in taxes on commercial and professional premises, including:
• Certificate of compliance: a flat rate of 5,000 DH will now be required to obtain this document.
• Operating permit: a flat rate of 2,000 DH will be applied for the operating permit for commercial and professional premises.
• Activity permit: a flat rate of 3,000 DH will be applied for the permit to carry out commercial, industrial or craft activities.
• Party halls: a flat rate of 50,000 DH will be applied for the operating permit for party halls.
In parallel with the increase in taxes, the city council has also formalized the increase in transportation prices. Tram and busway tickets will increase by 1 DH and 2 DH respectively. The rechargeable card will go from 15 DH to 30 DH.
