Casablanca Races to Complete Major Highway Projects Before 2025 Africa Cup

Time is running out as the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Morocco 2025) approaches. Four major highway projects must be completed by the summer of 2025.
Transformation works of the Sidi Maârouf, Aïn Harrouda and Azbane highway interchanges and construction of the Tit Mellil-Berrechid highway. These are the four highway projects that must be carried out in Casablanca by the summer of 2025, before the next CAN. With a total budget of 1.1 billion dirhams, the works for the transformation of the Ain Harrouda and Sidi Maârouf interchanges began last November.
As for the Sidi Maârouf interchange, a flagship exchange point in the economic capital at its southern exit and connection between the Casablanca bypass highway and the Casablanca-Berrechid highway, it will be redesigned in a hybrid 3-story format, combining two types of interchanges, the "cloverleaf" and the "turbine", in order to eliminate the current crossings and increase the capacity of the bifurcation to meet the growth in traffic, says ADM.
What about the Aïn Harrouda interchange? Located north of Casablanca, this highway section connecting the Mohammédia West interchange to the Aïn Harrouda bifurcation is currently one of the most congested sections of the kingdom, with traffic reaching 120,000 vehicles/day. As for the Azbane interchange works, they include various types of interventions, including road works, reinforced earth works, the construction of engineering structures, as well as paving of sidewalks, horizontal and vertical signage, drainage and lighting. The GTR company, which was in competition with the El Hallaoui company, for 96.6 million dirhams, is responsible for carrying out these works.
The construction of the Tit Mellil-Berrechid highway has started in 2023. It is the first national highway Berrechid designed from the outset in 2 x 3 lanes. This highway "concerns a 30 km stretch, directly connecting the Casablanca bypass highway (A1) at the Tit Mellil bifurcation, to the Casablanca-Marrakech highway (A3) and the Berrechid-Beni Mellal highway (A4) at the Berrechid highway interchange," specifies Médias24.
