Morocco: a new highway delivered
Major highway construction projects aimed at easing traffic around Greater Casablanca are being completed earlier than expected. Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) has announced the imminent commissioning of the new Tit Mellil–Berrechid highway and the Aïn Harrouda and Sidi Maârouf interchanges, several months ahead of the initial schedule that set the completion of the works for 2026.
The new 30 km long Tit Mellil–Berrechid highway is presented as the first of its kind in Morocco to be designed from the outset as a 2x3 lane highway. It is intended to relieve the traffic congestion in the Casablanca agglomeration and reduce travel time for users coming from the North and East and heading to the South and Center of the Kingdom.
Modernization of the Aïn Harrouda and Sidi Maârouf nodes
In parallel with this new highway, two existing strategic nodes have been extensively redesigned to improve safety and capacity. The redevelopment of the Aïn Harrouda node, located on a very busy axis, has integrated the construction of ten engineering structures and the creation of new lanes that can go up to eight per direction.
The second major project is the transformation of the Sidi Maârouf highway interchange, south of Casablanca, which responds to the high density of local traffic. The infrastructure, described as an unprecedented large-scale project in Morocco, has been redesigned on three levels, with the construction of eight engineering structures and an expansion to five lanes to absorb the flow of traffic at the junction of the bypass and Casablanca-Berrechid highways.
