Casablanca Police Officers Under Investigation for Alleged Violent Arrest Caught on Video

The National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) has subjected seven individuals, including a commissioner and two police inspectors, to a judicial investigation following the release of a video showing an employee of a cafe who indicates that he was assaulted during his arrest in Casablanca.

In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) specifies that it has interacted seriously following the publication by the victim, on August 17, 2021, of a complaint in the electronic press. Informed, the competent public prosecutor’s office gave its instructions for the opening of an investigation. Subsequently, the victim and all the police officers who participated in the arrest procedures, as well as the witnesses of the incident, were heard.

Following the investigations carried out in the context of this case, the BNPJ has subjected a police inspector and four other suspects to custody procedures for an investigation into alleged violence perpetrated by a public official, participation in acts of forgery and incitement to false testimony. A police commissioner, head of a police district, and his deputy with the rank of police inspector as well. They will appear at liberty along with the other suspects.

The DGSN is awaiting the completion of the procedures and the judicial decisions that will be taken against the suspect police officers in order to decide on the administrative measures to be taken in accordance with the status of the officials of the General Directorate, concludes the statement.
