Casablanca Police Bust Kidnapping Ring, Rescue Victim Held for $400,000 Ransom

Five individuals with criminal records, including a woman, were arrested on Tuesday morning in Casablanca for their alleged involvement in a criminal network involved in a case of kidnapping and sequestration with a ransom demand.
According to information gathered by the Casablanca police department and relayed by the General Directorate of National Security, the victim was invited by the young woman to visit a furnished rental apartment. Once inside, they were joined by the other members.
Sequestered and beaten by his captors, the man was filmed in possession of drug tablets, then forced to confess under torture. For his release, his torturers demanded the sum of 5 million dirhams to be deposited in an account abroad.
The press release from the DGSN stresses that the accused finally managed to extort 4 million dirhams from him, a sum that the victim transferred from a money transfer agency. An initial search of the homes of two suspects led to the seizure of a stun gun and a large sum of money that may have come from illegal activities.
