Seven Arrested in Morocco for Kidnapping and Extorting Migrants

Seven people were arrested by elements of the judicial police brigade at the provincial security district in Nador for their alleged involvement in a case of fraud, of which candidates for illegal immigration were victims. They were also arrested for kidnapping, sequestration with violence and ransom demand.
It all started with a complaint filed by a person whose brother was kidnapped and sequestered in a house in the Igounaf neighborhood. According to the complaint filed with the security services in Nador, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 40,000 DH, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The police proceeded to free the victim, as well as to arrest five people suspected of having sequestered and assaulted him. It was after research and investigations that the police realized that the accused, all candidates for illegal immigration, had kidnapped the alleged victim and demanded a ransom from his brother. They wanted to take revenge for having been victims of fraud and fictitious promises of illegal emigration on the part of the sequestered person and his brother.
All the arrested persons were placed in custody at the disposal of the investigation opened to elucidate the ins and outs of this case and determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity, the DGSN emphasizes.
