Casablanca Overhauls Car Guard System to Tackle Longstanding Chaos

The city of Casablanca is reorganizing the car guarding sector to end the anarchy that has characterized it until now. At least that’s what it’s trying to do after numerous failures.

Wednesday, the ordinary session of the municipal council of the city of Casablanca, chaired by Mayor Nabila Rmili, was marked by the adoption of new measures aimed at reorganizing the car guarding sector. "Today marks a turning point for the profession of car guard in Casablanca. For the first time, an official and structured framework is being put in place, opening this activity to anyone wishing to practice it, provided they meet the defined criteria," emphasized Nabila Rmili.

One of these measures is the establishment of specifications taking into account the social conditions of the guards. In this regard, it was decided to implement an equitable delimitation of space, allocating to each a zone of 70 linear meters on an avenue or street, in accordance with the recommendations of a specialized commission that studied this spatial distribution.

There is also the implementation of a digital platform, "Rokhas," which will be accessible to anyone wishing to submit an application to obtain a license and legally practice the profession of car guard, reports Al Akhbar. Its access is universal, subject to certain exclusions related to criminal records.

A 15-day period will be granted to selected candidates to submit a file including specific documents. The files will be examined by a commission, composed of representatives from the municipality, police, and local administrative authority. Successful candidates will then obtain a license signed by the mayor or her designated representative, a professional identity card, as well as a standardized uniform that they must wear during their working hours.
