Casablanca Launches Major Pest Control Campaign Against Rats and Mosquitoes

A rat control and mosquito control campaign is currently being carried out by the Division specialized in sanitation and hygiene actions (DASH) of the city of Casablanca. It comes after the one a few weeks ago that concerned the disinfection of insects.
This operation targets mosquitoes, rats, American cockroaches as well as various flying and crawling insects.
The intervention sites targeted by the DASH teams are Lake Firdaous, the Lahraouyine basins or the Bouskoura wadi. Similarly, unsanitary neighborhoods, stagnant water breeding grounds, parks, green spaces, public places, and neighborhood markets are prioritized. For the neighborhoods, the intervention plans are organized in coordination with the district presidents and Lydec, who are responsible for carrying out an inspection before the start of the campaign.
Earlier, DAHS had already taken advantage of the confinement periods to disinfect living spaces after the identification and quarantine of Covid-19 cases. These operations were carried out by a team of agents specialized in the 3Ds (disinfection, insecticide treatment and rodent control). According to l’Économiste, these agents also targeted funeral transport, land registries, legalization services in the districts, as well as public administrations in preparation for the gradual resumption of activities.
In addition, the ammonium-based detergent products used for disinfection are not harmful and are approved by the Ministry of Health, the source adds. It should be remembered that the DAHS team’s operations are overseen by the SDL, which is also responsible for monitoring and following up on cleaning services.
