Hassan II Mosque Undergoes Disinfection Ahead of Reopening in Casablanca

In preparation for its reopening, the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca has been sterilized and disinfected, in order to comply with the prevention measures in place. The operation aims to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
This sterilization and disinfection operation follows the decision of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs regarding the reopening of mosques throughout the national territory, starting from Wednesday, July 15. In action, the teams of the local development company "Casablanca Baia".
In a statement to the MAP, the director of the religious building, Mabrouk El Miloud, said that the Hassan II Mosque Foundation, in coordination with the regional delegation of Islamic Affairs and the said company, is carrying out a vast disinfection operation in the prayer halls (men and women) and other premises, to curb the spread of Covid-19 and protect the faithful. He hinted that the mosque’s reception capacity, which is 25,000 people on ordinary days, will be reduced to 1,000 worshippers, in these exceptional circumstances.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs authorized the reopening of mosques, for the performance of the five daily prayers, except for Friday prayers.
