Casablanca Invests 20 Million Dirhams in Massive Pest Control Initiative

In order to fight rats and mosquitoes, the city of Casablanca plans to disinfect more than 120,000 manholes. The Communal Council has allocated a budget of 20 million dirhams to the SDL Casa Environnement for the acquisition of the necessary products and equipment.
In addition to the treatment of 120,000 manholes, the Local Development Company (SDL) Casa Environnement has had the technical and human means since July 2019 to treat more than 800 hectares of bare land, more than 5,000 km of boulevards and streets against mosquitoes throughout the year.
The rodent control and disinfection operation takes into account public gardens, beaches and public squares, since according to H24info, it is also planned to fight the invasion of the city by insects. A mosquito control campaign is thus planned for 40 hectares of lakes and ponds in the city.
Over the past six months, the SDL has treated 28,000 sewers against rats, fought insects in 4 lakes covering an area of 29 hectares, and carried out 281 operations against flying insects in green spaces and beaches, not to mention the 295 operations against snakes and reptiles over an area of 15 hectares.
The inhabitants of Casablanca, especially the residents of the black spots of insect proliferation such as the port, Yasmina park, the poultry slaughterhouses of the Villette, suffer every year from the massive arrival of mosquitoes.
