Casablanca to Launch Modern Bus Fleet in September, Enhancing Urban Transport

The Alsa Al Baida company will receive and put into service the first wave of new buses in Casablanca and its surroundings, starting next September.

"As of September 2020, the economic capital will shine with a new face with the arrival of the first wave of much more modern and technologically advanced new buses," assures, in a press release, the Alsa Al Baida company, the delegated operator of urban bus transport in Greater Casablanca.

About 700 new buses will ultimately circulate in the streets of Greater Casablanca; which will facilitate the transport of nearly 350 million passengers each year, the same source specifies.

In October 2019, the Alsa Al Baida company had signed a contract for the delegated management of urban collective bus transport on the territory of the 18 municipalities of Greater Casablanca with the Intercommunal Cooperation Establishment (ECI). This contract, with a duration of 10 years, can be extended for an additional 5 years.

It includes two phases. The first, which is an initialization phase, covers the period from November 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The Alsa Al Baida company is providing public transport with 250 buses "in a highly deteriorated state" taken over from M’dina Bus, whose contract expired on October 31, it is added. 400 used buses will also be put into service gradually. The second phase, for its part, will take effect from 2021. It concerns the commissioning of 700 new buses, jointly financed by the ECI and Alsa.
