New Bus Fleet in Casablanca Targeted by Vandals, Operator Reports Multiple Attacks

"Vandals" attacked the buses of Alsa Al Baida, the fleet recently put into circulation. The bus operator in Greater Casablanca denounced on Saturday this vandalism orchestrated by people who, in the meantime, would have already been arrested.
Since the new fleet was put into circulation, it has already suffered five incidents in less than a week, the operator announced, denouncing "the behavior of a certain minority of vandals". The company will put into circulation at the beginning of 2021, nearly 700 new buses and is already concerned about their fate. In a press release, Alsa Al Baida deplores "stone throwing, broken windows and others". Degradation that "directly impacts the quality of the fleet and the level of service provided to citizens," the statement said.
Last October, Alsa Al Baida, a subsidiary of the Spanish group Alsa Transport, signed a 10-year contract with the Intercommunal Cooperation Establishment (ECI) of Greater Casablanca, with the possibility of a 5-year extension. This is a contract that includes an initial phase, called the initialization phase, which runs from November 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020.
A phase during which the company "operated with some 250 buses, in a highly deteriorated state," which it took over from its predecessor M’dina Bus. Then, it is gradually that it has put into circulation 400 used buses which will give way, from 2021, to brand new buses.
