Casablanca Derby Sparks Unrest: Residents Flee as Hooligans Clash Near Stadium
Tuesday 24 December 2019, by
The clashes that occurred outside the stadium at the end of the traditional Casablanca derby this Sunday, December 22, between the eternal "sworn enemies" created a panic among the residents of Maârif. The deterrent presence of the police elements made it possible to counter any possible excesses.
Shocking scenes, disturbance of public order, damage, violence and aggression. This was the picture presented by these hooligans at the end of the Casablanca derby, Raja-WAC (1-0) in the Maârif district, near the Mohammed V complex. This horde of unleashed supporters went beyond the awareness campaigns and the multiple calls for restraint by the security forces.
According to Le360, the supporters, to escape the vigilance of the security forces, used alleys and unguarded side streets, sowing trouble and chaos in their wake. Wydad supporters were seen chasing their Raja counterparts, brandishing death threats and uttering indecent words... which echoed in this neighborhood where whole families live, the same source indicates.
Faced with this fury, panic seized the inhabitants of this neighborhood. The owners of vehicles parked near their homes quickly rushed down from their buildings to protect their property, the same media specifies.
Fortunately, the police officers went to the scene in large numbers to "supervise" these hooligans, some of whom quickly fled in the face of their deterrent presence.
