Casablanca Demolishes Illegal Structures in Slum Neighborhood Ahead of Major Events

In Casablanca, the local authorities have launched a massive demolition campaign of illegal constructions, particularly targeting the underprivileged neighborhood of Sidi Moumen, sadly famous for its slums.

Under the impetus of the Wali of the region and the mayor, this offensive aims to restore order in urban planning and restore the luster of the economic capital, which is preparing to host major international sporting events.

While this operation is perceived as necessary to sanitize the urbanism of the economic capital, it also raises thorny questions about the future of the evicted families and the rehousing solutions offered.

While some applaud this initiative, others, particularly associations, are concerned about the social consequences of these demolitions. The future of the affected neighborhoods and the support for the people left homeless are at the heart of the concerns, indicates Aljarida24.

At the same time, the government has unveiled an ambitious plan to eradicate slums throughout the country. It is a question of rehousing the families in decent housing.

Concretely, families will be able to access F3 type apartments (two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom) at a reduced cost.

• For housing costing 250,000 dirhams, the State will provide a maximum subsidy of 110,000 dirhams, to which will be added a contribution of 40,000 dirhams from the Ministry of Housing. The beneficiary will then have to finance the remaining 100,000 dirhams.

• For housing at 300,000 dirhams, the government plans a direct purchase aid of a maximum of 100,000 dirhams, a state support of 60,000 dirhams and the same contribution of 40,000 dirhams from the Ministry of Housing. Again, the family will participate up to 100,000 dirhams.
