Casablanca Uncovers 14,000 City-Owned Properties Rented at Shockingly Low Rates

The Casablanca council has hired a consulting firm to conduct an inventory of its real estate assets. The finding is disconcerting: 14,000 apartments and houses belonging to the city are rented at derisory prices or exploited free of charge.
These apartments and houses, some of which are located outside the city and have a garden, commercial or catering premises, are rented at derisory prices, between 50 and 100 dirhams per month, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. The city council made this discovery after hiring a consulting firm to conduct an inventory of its real estate assets in order to establish an updated register and a computerized mapping of all these buildings.
This update will allow the Casablanca city council to increase its own financial resources, it is assured. While some houses with a garden, located on the central Boulevard Zerktouni, are rented for a maximum of 100 dirhams, others located in the Hay El Hassani neighborhood or on Boulevard Bir Anzarane, in the Maarif neighborhood, are exploited free of charge by certain officials, including former municipal councilors of the city.
