Casablanca COVID-19 Surge: 3 Prefectures Under Close Monitoring as Cases Spike

The increase in new coronavirus infections recorded in recent weeks in Casablanca is particularly affecting three prefectures. As a result, Sidi Bernoussi, Anfa and Ain Sebaa Hay Mohammadi are under the surveillance of the health authorities and could be subject to strict restrictions if they experience a new increase in infections.

Based on the official figures of the Ministry of Health, the active cases have been compared between June and August, reports Aujourd’hui.ma. Regarding the Prefecture of Sidi Bernoussi, the number of infections on June 6 was 24 against 604 in August, i.e. 25 times more.

Concerning the Prefecture of Ain Sebaa Hay Mohammadi, the number of active cases was 21 on June 9, while it stood at 296 on August 9, i.e. 14 times more than in June. As for the Prefecture of Anfa, it had 15 cases of infection last June, while it recorded 252 cases on August 9, i.e. 17.8 times more.

As for the 5 other Prefectures in the same region, the number of active cases has been multiplied by a factor of 2 to 7 over the same period. According to the same daily, the metropolis should soon see a tightening of security measures, provided that its epidemiological situation exceeds the red line.

This is evidenced by the strong measures imposed on Tangier, Fez and Marrakech, in the face of the resurgence of contaminations. To avoid this blow, the inhabitants of the economic capital should play their part by respecting the barrier gestures and the safety instructions, which are quite simple to apply.
