Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions Amid Rising Cases

The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca has taken new restrictive measures for the performance of the five daily prayers. This decision follows the resurgence of new infections recorded in recent weeks in the economic capital.
In a statement to the Map, the director of the mosque, Mabrouk Miloud, specified that all persons who come to this place of worship, as worshippers or visitors, are required to comply with the instructions and recommendations put in place by the competent authorities. The purpose of this measure is to preserve the health and safety of all.
Regarding the security aspect of the Hassan II Mosque, the chief officer states that he cooperates and coordinates, on a permanent basis, with the stakeholders at the local and national levels in order to ensure compliance with the precautionary measures to curb the spread of the disease.
He also recalls that before the reopening of places of worship decided by the Ministry of Endowments, a large-scale disinfection and sterilization operation of the prayer halls (men and women), the square and the dependencies of the Mosque was undertaken in coordination with the regional directorate of Islamic Affairs of Casablanca-Settat and the local development company "Casablanca Baia".
Mabrouk Miloud also invited the faithful to strictly respect the measures issued by the health authorities. This includes wearing a protective mask, using a personal prayer mat, respecting the physical distance of 1.5 meters between the faithful, through markings on the mosque’s prayer mats, and the prohibition of gatherings inside this enclosure before and after each prayer.
Other measures are also planned, such as the opening of additional doors during the exit of the worshippers to avoid crowding, the provision of hydroalcoholic gel at the entrances of the mosque. This is in addition to temperature taking at the entrance and the continued closure of the sanitary facilities, sterilization operations after each prayer at the level of the carpets and halls, the storage of all Korans, rosaries and ablution stones, the closure of the sanitary spaces. As for the recitation of the "hizb", it will now be done in the presence of the Imam and two other faithful.
