Casablanca COVID-19 Cases Surge: Over 800 New Infections in Single Day

The Casablanca-Settat region recorded 802 new infections on Saturday, August 15, bringing the number of active cases nationwide to 11,526.
The region has just recorded a record number of infections, the highest figure since August 4 (422). In detail, 651 cases were reported in Casablanca, 41 in Berrechid, 40 in Mediouna, 33 in Mohammedia, 13 in Settat, 8 in Nouaceur, 5 in Sidi Bennour and Benslimane.
It remains the most infected city in the Kingdom, far ahead of Tanger Tétouan Al Hoceima and Marrakech-Safi, which have 8,294 (+155) and 6,555 (+256) cases of infection respectively.
Faced with the resurgence of new infections, the local authorities of the metropolis have decided to take drastic measures.
Several neighborhoods are now under surveillance while Hay Mohammadi has been barricaded. In addition, controls have been stepped up to ensure compliance with preventive measures by the population.
