Casablanca Beaches Close as COVID-19 Precaution, Residents Adapt to New Restrictions

The decision to close the beaches of Casablanca came into effect at midnight on Friday. The beaches of the city, often stormed by residents and visitors, especially during this vacation period, are now empty.
The "Lalla Meriem" and "Ain Diab" beaches, since Friday, are only visited by police patrols who ensure compliance with the ban. Signs placed everywhere provide information on the ban and raise awareness of compliance with the established rules.
Even though the beaches are closed, the walks are still taking place along the corniche, in compliance with preventive measures such as wearing a mask and physical distancing, reports the MAP, which specifies that the majority of Casablancans approve the decision of the authorities.
The government has decided to close the beaches of Casablanca, Dar Bouazza and the Paloma beach in Ain Harrouda, following the appearance of new outbreaks of contamination in several cities, the same source said.
