Casablanca Bans Pigeon Feeding in Iconic Square, Sparking Controversy

Visitors to the famous Mohammed V square in Casablanca, better known as the "Pigeon Square", disapprove of the decision of the local authorities to ban the feeding of stray birds and animals.
The Casablanca Environment Society, in collaboration with the Casablanca municipality, recently placed a sign on this square to remind citizens of the ban on feeding birds and stray animals, in accordance with the law. The decision is causing discontent. The sellers of cereal and corn grains, the preferred food of pigeons, as well as the photographers, who will find themselves without a source of income, are particularly affected.
A corn grain seller described the decision as "unfair", indicating that this activity is "her only source of income". "We love the pigeons, we even consider feeding them a good deed for which we will be rewarded, we stay here for long hours, exposed to the intense heat of the sun or the freezing cold," she told Alyaoum24. Visitors to the famous square have also criticized this measure that deprives them of the pleasure of feeding the pigeons.
