Casablanca to Ban Heavy Trucks: Logistics Overhaul Sparks Debate

In Casablanca, professionals are criticizing the decision to ban the circulation of heavy trucks in the city, which will soon come into effect.
Starting in March, heavy trucks will be banned from circulating in Casablanca. Upstream, the mayor of the city ordered the opening of the coastal road connecting the port of Casablanca to the Zenata logistics area. This measure should help ease traffic and circulation in the streets of the economic capital, while improving the conditions for transporting goods. The City Council also plans to build large warehouses near the peripheral roads. Thus, heavy trucks will be able to benefit from specialized platforms for receiving all kinds of goods that the municipality will install in dedicated logistics areas. Small trucks will then be responsible for distributing these goods during set hours outside of peak hours. These trucks will travel on Route 322 leading to Zenata.
While it seems well thought out, this decision is not to the liking of the professionals. It has provoked a wave of anger among them, reports Aljarida24. For the simple reason that more than a thousand heavy trucks will no longer be able to pass through the Ain Sebaâ and Roches Noires areas. Professionals expect certain conditions to be met before the decision comes into effect: define the hours of circulation for heavy vehicles, install speed bumps to reduce speed and provide parking stations adjacent to the port intended for trucks that will transport consumer products and materials used in various industrial and commercial activities.
