Casablanca to Ban Heavy Trucks from City Streets by End of March

The Casablanca authorities plan to ban heavy trucks from circulating in the city in the coming days.
The measure should come into effect after the commissioning of the truck passage connecting the city’s port to the highway via Ain Sebaâ, said Ahmed Afilal, the vice-president of the Casablanca city council, to SNRT News, adding that this decision to ban heavy trucks in the city will be effective before the end of March at the latest and would help reduce traffic jams in the city.
Afilal explained that the adoption of this decision follows meetings between the regional authorities (governor of the Casablanca-Settat region, mayor of the city, unions and associations of truck owners and professionals), adding that the measure has been well received by all stakeholders.
The construction of the special passage for trucks required an investment of around one billion dirhams, Afilal also said, announcing the upcoming implementation of another measure aimed at creating special platforms for the reception of goods transported by these trucks, before their conveyance into the city by medium-sized vehicles.
