Casablanca Authorities Seize 8 Tons of Tainted Meat, Local Officials Implicated

About eight tons of spoiled meat intended to be sold in the weekly markets were seized by the Royal Gendarmerie of Casablanca. Several municipal councilors would be involved in this case.
According to the daily Assabah, this case once again raises the problem of clandestine slaughter, despite the many awareness campaigns. A scandal that risks splashing many municipal councilors in the region. These eight tons of meat unfit for consumption could have ended up in the markets and in the grilled meat restaurants, if it were not for the vigilance of the Gendarmerie elements.
According to sources from the daily Assabah, these six tons of red meat and two tons of spoiled offal were supplied by the clandestine slaughter industry of El Gara. An area that escapes all control of the National Office of Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA).
Following the arrest of the carrier who was about to deliver the meat, an investigation was opened by the elements of the royal gendarmerie, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
