Casablanca Airport: The "crime summit" of Marrakech thwarted, an Israeli gang leader intercepted

Morocco has just broken up a plan for an international mafia meeting on its soil. The security services arrested a dangerous Israeli criminal as soon as he got off the plane in Casablanca, preventing the holding of a summit aimed at organizing drug trafficking in the Middle East.

The arrest took place as soon as the suspect arrived at Mohammed V Airport. Based on precise intelligence, the Moroccan police neutralized this Israeli national before he could leave the terminal. The man was not there for tourism: he was supposed to join Marrakech for a secret conclave bringing together bosses of organized crime. The agenda of this gathering was to coordinate drug prices and open new supply routes to Israel and the Emirates.

The profile of the individual is heavy. The Mako site describes him as a well-known figure to the Israeli police, having already served several prison sentences. His career is marked by violence, a member of his family having been liquidated during settling of scores. This arrest validates the effectiveness of the security cooperation between Rabat and Tel Aviv. Alerted to the danger of the traveler and his projects, the Moroccan services acted without delay. Expulsion to Israel is expected after the finalization of the legal procedures.

Since the resumption of diplomatic relations, some Israeli offenders, often of Moroccan origin, have tried to use the Kingdom as a fallback base away from the judges. Intelligence coordination locks this option, as another recent case proves. A Franco-Israeli businessman has been detained in Rabat for four months on a German arrest warrant for a multi-million euro currency fraud. The latter is currently trying to block his extradition by claiming Moroccan nationality, a legal maneuver that complicates the case but confirms that the country is not a refuge.
