Canaries: 20 Years in Prison for Moroccan Man
The prosecutor is seeking twenty years imprisonment against a Moroccan accused of fatally stabbing an 18-year-old youth in the Canary Islands in May 2024. The trial opens next week before Spanish justice.
The tragedy unfolded on May 31, 2024 in the Arnao park in Telde, on the island of Gran Canaria. According to El Debate, the suspect, of Moroccan nationality and in irregular situation in Spain, had premeditated his act by purchasing a large knife shortly before 3 p.m.

Concealing the weapon under his clothing alongside a second blade, the attacker made his way toward his victim, also of Moroccan origin. He then struck by surprise with a knife in each hand, leaving the young man no chance to defend himself.
One of the blows struck the heart with a depth of nineteen centimeters, severing the aorta and causing fatal hemorrhagic shock before emergency services arrived. The alleged perpetrator fled by running before being apprehended and placed in provisional detention on June 3, 2024.

Prosecuted for murder, the defendant will appear before a jury starting Monday, April 20 at the Las Palmas Court. Beyond the two decades of incarceration, the public prosecutor is demanding 100,000 euros in compensation to the victim’s parents.
