Spain: End of the ordeal for Salma, a Moroccan woman held hostage and raped for two years in Murcia
The horror has come to an end in Murcia. The man accused of having sequestered, raped and tortured a Moroccan national for nearly two years has been presented to the justice system this Friday morning. The victim, who had been missing since April 2024, managed to escape from her prison at the beginning of the week, putting an end to 22 months of captivity.
The main suspect, a Spaniard identified as A. S. M., appeared before the judge today, accused of sequestration, continuous sexual assault and gender-based violence. He had been arrested on Wednesday in the house of San José de la Vega where he was holding Salma R., a 38-year-old Moroccan woman whose trace had been lost on April 1, 2024. On that day, her family had raised the alarm, circulating the portrait of a smiling woman, far from imagining the nightmare that was beginning.
The liberation of the victim occurred on February 10 last. After almost two years without seeing the street, she managed to escape, bearing on her body the stigmata of the blows and abuse suffered. During her detention, she describes a daily life made of humiliations, physical violence and repeated sexual abuse. The search of the home confirmed the dangerousness of the kidnapper: the police seized firearms, bladed weapons and drugs there. Salma - Photo published by the police after her disappearance
The investigation also reveals a dark complicity of the entourage. A neighbor, suspected of having covered up the actions of the torturer, was presented to the court this same Friday. Two other individuals, including a relative of the accused, were arrested for concealment before being released pending their judicial summons.
