Rabat Partners with South Korea to Introduce Electric Buses Ahead of 2030 World Cup

On Friday, Fatiha El Moudni, mayor of Rabat, and Hyewon Cho, country director of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a sustainable public transport project in the Moroccan capital. Funded by KOICA, the $13 million project plans to introduce environmentally friendly electric buses in Rabat and also includes a component to raise public awareness of green transportation, the agency said in a statement.

The initiative will draw on Korean expertise in sustainable mobility to ensure successful implementation of the project between 2025 and 2028, the same source said. "The two parties are committed to ensuring the effective implementation of the project and maximizing its impact on sustainable urban transport in Rabat," the statement added.

KOICA is "fully willing to be a leading partner in supporting the green initiatives of the city of Rabat and is eager to provide electric buses to the citizens of Rabat as soon as possible," said Hyewon Cho, who is counting on the administrative support of the Rabat City Council, including for the necessary homologation process for bus imports.
