The development plan for Rabat will change the face of the Moroccan capital. The work to be carried out is evidence of this.
Rabat-Hassan is living its last hours in its current state. Widening of roads, development of the corniche, construction of new urban blocks. These are the works recorded in the development project of Hassan in Rabat. It is planned to widen streets and avenues, such as Avenue Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, Moustapha Assayeh, MMokhtar Gazoulit, La RĂ©sistance, Kebibat, Somalie, Irak, Capitaine Ouaarab, or Fatima al Fihriya, in order to ensure better traffic flow while improving access to the different areas of the city.
The development plan is "designed as an urban documentation of a new generation, which aspires to lay new foundations for sustainable and thoughtful urban development, while integrating contemporary approaches," reports Hespress. This will allow Rabat to fully play its strategic role as the administrative capital of the kingdom. In addition to the aesthetic transformations, the development plan for Hassan in Rabat aims to "cement the principles of urban quality through several fundamental axes that encompass development project areas, urban renewal areas, spaces dedicated to services and activities, and an essential reconciliation of the city with its coastline."
The development project areas include, among others, the project of the northern corniche of Rabat envisaged as a mixed destination, integrating elements of tourism, leisure and residential housing, and the large infrastructure located on Haj Hassan Avenue grouping various commercial and residential activities. As for the urban renewal areas, the coastal road counts a lot in this process, as it promotes urban renewal through the strategic grouping of plots allowing the establishment of specific urban units.
As for the urban renewal area of El Akkari, it is a question of developing a master plan accompanied by essential specifications and rules for optimal land use. New public spaces will be created. It is also planned to modify the road network and develop a mobility plan adapted to the needs of the capital.
