Brussels Airport Sees Surge in Moroccan Travel, Surpassing Pre-Pandemic Levels

Morocco, Spain, Italy, Turkey and France were among the most visited destinations by Belgians in November. As a result, Brussels Airport recorded a number of passengers above one million for the fifth consecutive month.
According to Brussels Airport, the most popular destinations in November were: Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, France, Turkey, Switzerland, Morocco, the United States and the United Kingdom, reports Air Journal. Morocco (102% of the number of passengers in 2019), Turkey (80% of 2019) and Spain (79% of 2019) continue to perform well. As for the United States, a rate of 45% of the number of passengers in 2019 was recorded at Brussels Airport last November. In total, more than 1.1 million passengers traveled through Brussels Airport last month, compared to 233,528 passengers in November 2020. This number of passengers corresponds to 56% of the pre-pandemic attendance rate recorded in November 2019.
Regarding the growth in freight volumes, it continued in November 2021 (+20% compared to November 2020). The growth in air freight (+23%) is observed in both segments, namely full cargo (+55%), the transport of freight on passenger flights (+41%) which continues to recover thanks to the increase in the number of passenger flights. As for express services, they experienced a very slight decline (- 4%), but volumes remain at a high level.
