Brahim Díaz Shines for Morocco with 5 Goals in 2 Qualifying Matches

A brace against Gabon and a hat-trick against Lesotho. This is the exceptional performance achieved by Brahim Díaz during the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Over the course of the matches, the Real Madrid striker has emerged as one of the key pieces of the Atlas Lions’ offensive system.

Brahim Díaz decided to play for Morocco, after waiting in vain for a call-up to the Spanish team. A choice welcomed in Morocco and criticized in Spain. "Brahim gives me several options. It won’t be easy for him tomorrow, we’ll have to be patient. He has to get used to it, find his bearings. We are happy to have a player of this level [...] He is a great player, we are happy. We must congratulate him, because he chose Morocco when Spain had called him up...," said Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, happy to have a striker of Diaz’s caliber in the Moroccan squad.

The Real Madrid striker quickly integrated into the Atlas Lions. After a more or less successful first match under the Moroccan colors in March, the 25-year-old player was decisive during the June gathering with two assists. Summoned in September for the away matches against Gabon and Lesotho, Diaz made an impression with remarkable performances, opening his goal account against Gabon (4-1) and scoring the only goal of the match against Lesotho (1-0). Injured, the former Manchester City and AC Milan player missed the October gathering.

The Atlas Lion has come back strong, scoring a brace against Gabon (5-1) on November 15 in Franceville, then a hat-trick against Lesotho (7-0) this Monday in Oujda. "We end the international break with a great victory in our home and in front of our loyal fans! Happy with my first hat-trick as a professional player! Thank you for your support!" said the Madrid striker after this last match. With these performances, the native of Malaga finishes top scorer in the group stage of the 2025 CAN Morocco qualifiers with 7 goals in 4 matches.
