Bomb Scare at Meknes Bus Station Prompts Police Response

The police were on high alert on Tuesday, believing they were dealing with a bomb. At the heart of this situation, a bag abandoned by a traveler, near the bus station in the city of Meknes.
In just a few minutes, the local authorities of the city, the judicial police services, the elements of the territorial surveillance division (DST), as well as teams from the technical and scientific police, found themselves at the Meknes station, alerted by the presence of a suspicious bag abandoned in a cafe, near the station.
The police services quickly cordoned off the area, setting up a security perimeter, while evacuating the cafe where the bag had been deposited. According to the daily Al Massae, the scientific and technical police services, using a video camera installed on the spot, carried out a remote examination of the suspicious bag.
In the end, there was more fear than harm. The bag’s examination showed that it contained only a laptop, clothes and other harmless objects. The items were seized by the scientific and technical police elements for further examination.
Likewise, an investigation has been opened to determine the identity of the person who had abandoned this bag and the reasons that had prompted him to leave it unattended, confides the same source.
