Body of Moroccan Migrant Found in French Alps Dam, Investigation Launched

The gendarmerie of Savoie discovered and recovered the lifeless body of a 31-year-old Moroccan in the EDF hydraulic dam of Freney, in the Maurienne valley, on Sunday, January 2, 2022. The Albertville prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation.
After this discovery, the helicopter of the Modane gendarmerie air detachment and rescuers from the PGHM airlifted the body of the Moroccan national, reports Le Dauphiné Libéré. The latter is said to have arrived in France, via Italy, between December 29 and January 1.
In an appeal for witnesses published last Monday, the Modane gendarmerie asks anyone who may have met the victim to contact them. He was wearing a black hooded jacket and dark blue jeans. The causes of this tragedy have not yet been determined. The Albertville prosecutor’s office is conducting an investigation in this direction.
