Biden Administration Affirms US Recognition of Moroccan Sovereignty Over Western Sahara

The new President of the United States, Joe Biden, is said to have welcomed the US recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and the normalization of diplomatic relations between the kingdom and Israel.
In Washington, sources close to the Democratic party confided this information to Asharq Al-Awsat. They add that the Biden administration considers Morocco a reliable ally on whom it can count in the North African region. Consequently, the US recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara will not be called into question, the same sources argue.
On December 10, 2020, Biden’s predecessor had signed a decree recognizing US sovereignty over the Sahara in exchange for the restoration of diplomatic relations between the kingdom and the Hebrew state.
