Biden Administration Likely to Maintain US Stance on Western Sahara

With the takeover of Joe Biden, a few voices were raised hoping that the new US president would review his position on the US recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara. This will not be the case, the new US president will not touch it.
US policy expert Ahmed Charai has just disappointed those who wish for a turnaround by the new US president on the US recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara. Although Joe Biden does not agree with his predecessor on certain points, he will not touch it, reassures Ahmed Charai, quoted by Al Ahdath El Maghribia.
The idea of any cancellation is to be ruled out, as the new US administration wants above all to rebuild its foreign relations, particularly with its traditional allies who are a priority in its foreign policy, on a solid basis. And, since Morocco has long been a historical ally of the United States of America, all the presidents who have taken office at the White House, regardless of their camp, have always respected this cardinal fact. Thus, the new Biden administration will not be the exception to a rule that has been respected for four centuries.
Moreover, Joe Biden’s two past terms at the White House, as Barack Obama’s vice president, were an opportunity for him to appreciate the strategic role of the alliances forged by his country with friendly nations, including Morocco, which occupies a special place and has long worked for peace.
Although those who envisage a turnaround on the Sahara issue are based on a few rare voices from the far left of the Democratic Party, the new president is not in this logic. For all these reasons, and in addition to the constancy of American diplomacy, we can be sure that there will be no turnaround on Washington’s recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara, stresses Ahmed Charai.
