Berber Activist Urges Moroccan King to Make Amazigh New Year a National Holiday

The president of the World Amazigh Community and Berber activist, Rachid Al Rakha, has written to King Mohammed VI to recognize the Amazigh New Year or Yennayer as a public holiday.
The professor opened his letter by wishing the Monarch a happy Amazigh new year. The year 2020 will be considered at the Amazigh level as the year 2970 and will be celebrated on January 12 worldwide by the Moroccan Amazigh people.
"Given that we are on the eve of the celebration of the 9th year of the recognition, by the Constitution, of Tamazight as an official language (...), we ask you to consider the Amazigh New Year as a paid public holiday," he wrote.
The same letter was also addressed to Prime Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani.
