Benzema Struggles at Al-Ittihad as Moroccan Teammate Outshines Him

Karim Benzema’s adventure at Al-Ittihad has taken an unexpected turn, marked by successive disappointments and unexpected competition within the team.
Arrived as the most expensive player in the league, the former Real Madrid star has quickly seen his image erode, culminating in the closure of his Instagram account under the weight of the pressure.
He who joined Al-Ittihad free of any contract after leaving Madrid, has not been able to regain his former brilliance on the pitch. Despite a contract running until 2026, his performances have not lived up to expectations, with only nine goals scored in 15 matches, a pale contribution compared to that of his rivals, such as Cristiano Ronaldo who is already at 22 or the Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah, a sure value of the Saudi team.
The nickname "Ben-Hazima", meaning "the son of defeat", has been attributed to the player, which shows the disappointment of the fans. In a disadvantageous position in the championship, Al-Ittihad has suffered despite the hopes placed in Benzema and his teammates. This situation has led to tensions and tactical changes within the team, without reversing the trend.
The atmosphere within the club has deteriorated, exacerbated by consecutive defeats and a porous defense. Far from his past performances, and under pressure, the Frenchman ended up closing his social media accounts. Let’s wish him the best for 2024.
