This burst of life came to a brutal halt on Monday at 4:42 p.m. At the level crossing on Kapelstraat-Moretusbrug street, near Hoboken-Polder station, the young man crossed the tracks despite the closed barriers before being struck by a train. Alerted while preparing his shift in his chip shop located two kilometers away, Bilal dropped everything to rush to the scene, discovering the motorcycle crushed. Transported to the hospital in critical condition, Nadir succumbed to his injuries that same evening at 11:30 p.m., despite a final surgical intervention attempted by doctors.

The void left by this sudden death devastates his surroundings, mourning a young man who always put others before himself. According to GVA, Bilal, who serves as a volunteer mortuary washer, helped the victim’s uncle and brother perform the ritual washing of his friend on Tuesday at the mosque. A tribute will be paid to him this Friday during prayer at the Grand Mosque, before his burial in the Muslim section of Schoonselhof cemetery.
