Khalid Antwerp murder sparks Kiel neighborhood riots
The arrest of a suspect linked to the murder of Khalid in Antwerp sparked an eruption in the neighborhood. Hundreds of residents clashed with police Friday evening, demanding justice after this violent fatal knife attack.
Judicial police arrested a 25-year-old Romanian national Friday around 8 p.m. He was hiding in an apartment located above a supermarket on Sint-Bernardsesteenweg, in the Antwerp neighborhood of Kiel. Investigators are attempting to determine his exact role in the fatal attack that occurred the previous night. Around 1 a.m., Khalid E.H., a 30-year-old resident of Hoboken, was found stabbed in the chest barely 200 meters away. Transported in critical condition to Antwerp University Hospital (UZA), he succumbed there. Just before the tragedy, a witness heard him cry out: "Cousin, help me."

This fatal robbery claimed a second victim. Kristof Aerts, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office, clarifies that a 23-year-old young man presented himself to officers shortly after. The latter claimed to have been robbed and stabbed in the buttock. The suspect arrested Friday, suspected of being involved in this deadly ambush, is to be presented and questioned Saturday by the investigating judge.
The police operation, however, turned to chaos. With the intervention being broadcast live on social media platforms like TikTok, between 500 and 600 people quickly gathered at the foot of the building. The crowd erupted in anger upon understanding that the raid concerned Khalid’s death.

Residents threw projectiles at police while screaming for justice. Wouter Bruyns, spokesman for law enforcement, confirms clashes and physical scuffles. Mediation teams and neighborhood officers had to intervene urgently to restore calm and disperse the crowd.
