Antwerp: A Moroccan seriously injured by a knife, a suspect arrested
A violent altercation turned tragic on Sunday evening in the Borgerhout neighborhood of Antwerp. A 29-year-old Moroccan national was seriously injured by knife blows inside a business. His alleged aggressor, also injured, was apprehended by the police.
The events took place on the Turnhoutsebaan, a busy street in the city. A dispute broke out between two men before escalating into a physical assault. According to the initial information, a 28-year-old Afghan national stabbed the victim, inflicting serious injuries on him.
The emergency services evacuated the young Moroccan to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect, who remained at the scene, was arrested by the authorities. He was also injured during the confrontation and was transported for medical care under police supervision.
The Antwerp police have opened an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of this brawl. The federal police laboratory examined the area, while investigators are exploiting the surveillance camera recordings and the testimonies of local residents to determine the causes of the conflict.
