Veiled Shoplifter’s Violent Escape Attempt Sparks Social Media Frenzy in Antwerp

In this video made on July 20 last and published in recent days on social networks, we see a veiled woman surrounded by several men and forcefully arrested on the Meir, the busiest commercial artery in Antwerp. This leaves room for various interpretations. According to some internet users, this woman had been assaulted by these passers-by for having shown her arms, for religious reasons. Others have mentioned an attempt to impose Sharia law. Questioned by our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws, the Antwerp police assure that this is not the case.

According to the facts, the woman would have committed a shoplifting. Arrested first by a security agent at the checkout, she struggles by hitting and scratching the agent. In the wake, two employees from another store try to stop her. Without success. She takes scissors from her handbag and injures one of the employees on the hand. She then tries to flee. But she will be arrested by passers-by at the Meir-Wapper intersection. The police arrive on the scene and arrest the suspect.

It is actually a woman already known to the justice system for thefts committed previously. She was presented to the investigating judge.
