Belgium School Sparks Outrage Over Racist Physics Question

The use of the word "negro" in a question during a physics class at the Royal Athenaeum of Bruges has caused controversy in Belgium. Shocked, a senior student shared the question on social media.
The controversial question was: "Find the rotation speed of an old negro who, at the equator, was smoking his pipe in front of his hut." According to the school administration, this is a very old course that was immediately withdrawn after the outbreak of the affair.
The young student who shared the question explains that she was shocked by its content. "After a year marked by the fight for ’Black Lives Matter’, I cannot let this pass. Is it out of stubbornness, stupidity or hatred that these words are still used? Is it so complicated to remove such a denigrating word from our vocabulary?" she wondered.
The school principal, Veerle Schelstraete, indicates that the course content has since been checked and that the controversial question has been removed. "The teacher who was using this material recognized his mistake and will discuss it with the student who posted the question on social media and her classmates during the next class." The manager understands that the question has shocked the student. "We have a very warm school, which develops several projects in the south and which has well framed the ’Black Lives Matter’ movement," she concludes.
